Each week our Fantasy Baseball experts will give fantasy owners their top choices for players to pick up for all leagues, as well as some players to consider in deeper leagues. If you have any Fantasy Baseball questions for our experts feel free to post them in post them in our Fantasy Sports Forum.
Add in all leagues
We were shocked to see Buchholz was only owned in about half of fantasy leagues. He is a young player with upside, that plays for a good team. He has a high whip which does scare us a little bit, but we think Buchholz is worth a roster spot in most leagues. (about 50% owned)
Soto is coming off of a very disappointing year but it looks like he could be bouncing back. He is off to a great start so far, and if you at all need a catcher we say pick him up if he is available. (about 75% owned)
We couldn’t believe how many leagues Morgan was still available in. He has the potential to bat for average, and he should easily steal 40 bags this year. Pick him up now if he is still available.(about 65% owned)
Venable is a young outfielder who has proven that he has speed and power. His batting average could use a little work, but we think Venable could eventually be a great all around fantasy player. He shouldn’t be owned in all leagues, but if you are looking for some speed and power you might want to take a gamble on Venable. (about 25% owned)
Rasmus is going to get a ton of RBI opportunities with his position in the Cardinals lineup. So far this year has has been a great all around outfielder, with power, speed, and average. We like his upside and he should be owned in all leagues at this point. (about 80% owned)
The Brewers bullpen has been awful so far this year, except for Villanueva. He has yet to give up an earned run in 12 innings pitched, and he has 15 K’s. We wouldn’t be surprised if Hawkins gets the first shot at closing games if they pull Hoffman, but we think Villanueva will eventually get the job. (about 15% owned)
It looks like Wood is going to instantly take over the closer role once he comes back from the DL. We doubt he is going to have an amazing year, but he should be a decent source of saves and could post an ERA in the low 3’s. (about 30% owned)
Lidge had one of the worst years in closer history last year, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t worth picking up. Madson hasn’t pitched that great and we think Lidge could be thrown right back into the closer role. We have no clue what to expect out of Lidge, but if he can even get close to his former self you will be glad you picked him up. (about 55% owned)
We think it is only a matter of time until Clippard takes the closing job from Capps in Washington. He has been pitching great of a late, and we think Capps is going to be on a very short leash. (about 50% owned)
Keep an eye on
Smoak is one of the biggest prospects in the Texas organization right now, but he has yet to show us what he is capable of. With a 1 for 15 start in the majors there isn’t much to get excited about. However, he is worth keeping an eye on because this guy has a ton of talent. (about 20% owned)
Davis has been impressive so far for the Mets and he could be worth adding in some leagues. We doubt he will keep up this pace, but if you need a first basemen you might want to give Davis a look. (about 25% owned)
Jaso has taken full advantage of his limited AB’s in the bigs so far. In 20 AB’s he has 9 hits and 9 RBI’s. We think there is a good chance he could take over as the everyday catcher, which would make him an interesting fantasy option. (about 5% owned)
