If you are new to a salary cap format, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. Your weekly lineup strategy is completely up to you. You can target a group of medium-priced players, or play some higher-priced studs mixed with lower-priced value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap.
You’ll need to save money on at least a couple of positions if you want to roll with any high-priced studs in your lineup. With that in mind, here are some FanDuel value picks for Week 14 that I like (based on a $60k budget; sorted by position and price).
It’s tough to get too excited for Shaun Hill, but it’s all about the low price and matchup. The Washington secondary has been leaky, which could make Shaun Hill an upside sleeper play this week. I wish the receiving corps for the Rams was stronger, but the emergence of Stedman Bailey could be the much needed boost.
Update, no Johnny Manziel this week. Even coming off a couple slow games, I still like Hoyer for a value play this week. Odds are good that the Colts get a lead in this one, which could make for plenty of late game numbers. If cornerback Vontae Davis is out for the Colts, Hoyer could pepper Josh Gordon all day long.
Terrance West is in the dog house after fumbling last week, which should make for a larger workload for Crowell. Crowell could be a clean sweep for a majority of carries, passing down duties and goal line work. Keep an eye on Crowell during practice this week as he popped up on the injury report on Wednesday.
I’m expecting Andre Ellington to be out this week, but you’ll want to make sure before starting Marion Grice. I’m not overly bullish on Marion Grice, but it’s all about the price here. The bargain basement price should allow a couple upgrades into your lineup and if Marion Grice has a decent day, you come out ahead in the value game.
We all know Josh Gordon is a stud, but this game has the potential to be huge for Gordon. If Vontae Davis is out this week (concussion), then expect a big hit to the Colts secondary and boost for Josh Gordon. If the Colts run up a lead in this game and are without Vontae Davis, Josh Gordon’s numbers could fly sky high.
Kenny Stills can be a bit hit or miss, but his big play potential offers up some nice upside. I wouldn’t expect the 160+ yards to repeat this week, but last weeks numbers shows how high his upside can be. For a risk/reward or tournament play, I think Still is worth a gamble.
After a dud last week, it may take some extra guts to play Delanie Walker this week. The upside is still there and Walker could be a stronger target this week with Justin Hunter out for the season. Jake Locker could start this week as Zach Mettenberger is dealing with a shoulder injury. In his earlier starts, Locker was looking for Delanie Walker as a first look option.
With Colt McCoy at QB last week, Jordan Reed led his team with 11 targets. Facing a tougher defense this week, I could see McCoy looking Reeds way often for plenty of check-down duties. If DeSean Jackson is out this week, then I like Reed for an extra boost.
Being a strong defense and going against the Jags, I feel good about the Texans this week. The only downfall is the Texans are on the road in this matchup, but I wouldn’t let that slow you down from playing this solid matchup.
I like the Lions at home this week. They’re strong against the run and should put plenty of pressure on Josh McCown. I like the chances for the Lions to exploit this matchup for plenty of sacks and to force mistakes by Josh McCown.
