If you are new to a salary cap format, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. Your weekly lineup strategy is completely up to you. You can target a group of medium-priced players, or play some higher-priced studs mixed with lower-priced value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap.
You’ll need to save money on at least a couple of positions if you want to roll with any high-priced studs in your lineup. With that in mind, here are some FanDuel value picks for Week 9 that I like (based on a $60k budget; sorted by position and price).
With a lacking run game and shootout matchup, Eli Manning could be a strong play for Week 9. I like that Eli is playing at home and the Colts should put up plenty of points to keep the scoreboard rolling. If Vontae Davis is out for the Colts, it would be a solid upgrade for the passing matchup for Eli Manning.
While Micheal Vick isn’t the exciting play he once was, he still has some wheels. Vick may be a bit rusty, but he can always rack up enough run yardage for a productive day. Vick is priced as the 18th QB on FanDuel for Week 9. We’ll also be playing Vick in our Punting on 3rd Down Challenge.
McKinnon didn’t find the end zone last week, but he’s still in line for a solid workload again this week. While the matchup is middle of the road, the Vikings offense should revolve around McKinnon running the ball again this week.
With Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson likely out again this week, Mark Ingram should get a heavy workload again. It’s not the soft matchup it was last week, but the workload and goal line duties are enough to make Ingram a solid value pick this week. You’ll need to play a Thursday game if you want Ingram in your lineup this week.
Donte Moncrief led the Colts for targets and put up excellent numbers last week in the absence of Reggie Wayne. If Reggie Wayne is out again this week, I’d look for Moncrief as a solid value pick. If Reggie Wayne does play, then Moncrief is a bit risky.
With Brian Quick out for the remainder of the season, Kenny Britt could step up as sleeper play this week. The Rams may spread the ball around, but I’d consider Britt the front runner with the most big play potential. With the low price, Kenny Britt could be worth a risk/reward play for Week 9.
Gronkowski is playing fantastic and well worth the price if you can afford him in your lineup this week. Going against Denver, this could be a high scoring matchup with plenty of red zone targets for Gronkowski.
The Jets have been solid against the run, which could keep Kansas City passing more this week. The Chiefs are lacking with their receivers and it wouldn’t surprise me if Kelce could lead his team in targets. As the 13th priced TE on FanDuel for Week 9, I like the value for Travis Kelce this week.
If you can afford Seattle in your lineup this week, I think it’s worth it. The Raiders have been inconsistent with Derek Carr, which alone is good enough to play Seattle in this matchup. Adding to the matchup that Seattle is playing at home, this could be a steep uphill battle for the Raiders this week.
For a cheap play, the Browns could fit the bill this week. Although the Browns are poor at stopping the run, they’re pretty solid in their secondary. Considering the offensive line for Tampa Bay hasn’t ran well, Cleveland could fare well at home in this matchup.
