If you are new to a salary cap format, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. Your weekly lineup strategy is completely up to you. You can target a group of medium-priced players, or play some higher-priced studs mixed with lower-priced value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap.
You’ll need to save money on at least a couple of positions if you want to roll with any high-priced studs in your lineup. With that in mind, here are some FanDuel value picks for Week 6 that I like (based on a $60k budget; sorted by position and price).
The Cleveland defense takes a step back with Joe Haden likely out this week. If Joe Haden is indeed out, I like Roethlisberger for a solid boost into QB1 territory. With a completion rate of 69% after the first 5 games, Big Ben is playing sharp.
Brian Hoyer could be a happy medium for a Week 6 value QB. With Joe Haden out, I’m expecting the Steelers to put enough points to keep Hoyer in a game of catch-up this week. As the 26th priced QB on FanDuel this week, I like Hoyer for a solid value pick.
There are plenty of question marks for the Lions run game this week. With Reggie Bush possibly out, Joique Bell could step into heavy workload. Coming off a concussion, it’s not a lock Joique Bell will play. If by chance both Reggie Bush and Joique Bell are out, George Winn at $5,300 looks to be next in line.
With Rashad Jennings out, Andre Williams is in line for a solid workload. A well rounded RB with goal line duties, I like Andre Williams as a strong value pick for week 6. Williams is the 28th priced RB at FanDuel this week and has RB1 upside.
When Donald Brown went out with a concussion, Branden Oliver stepped up in both the run and passing game. Not only did Branden Oliver hit a couple of big plays, but he also showed some nice burst that is superior to Donald Brown. Even if Donald Brown returns this week, Oliver could still put up strong numbers.
I view Mike Wallace as the poor man’s Jeremy Maclin, although that may not be generous enough. He’s a go-to WR and can always hit a big play for a TD. If the Packers keep the points rolling, Wallace could be a strong play.
With Calvin Johnson possibly out this week, Golden Tate should be the main beneficiary. Even if Calvin Johnson plays, the boost in targets should remain up for Golden Tate until Calvin Johnson is 100%. I actually like Golden Tate more if Calvin Johnson does play, as it should ease coverage for Tate.
Coming off a slow game last week, the price for Bennett is lower this week. The Falcons offense is great at home and I’m expecting this game to be a shootout. As the 8th priced TE at FanDuel this week, there is plenty of value for Bennett this week. He’s very likely to be in my Week 6 lineups.
If Jordan Reed returns this week, he could be a good risk/reward play. He does have Niles Paul in the mix, but I like Jordan Reed to get a majority of the workload if he’s looking 100% in practice this week. Arizona is currently the 6th worst team against TEs and they were the worst in the league against TEs last year.
San Diego Chargers
While they aren’t at home this week, they aren’t far away playing Oakland. The Chargers have been a solid defense and considering their Week 6 matchup, they could be worth the investment. Oakland’s offense is just plain ugly.
The only thing that could be better for the Broncos this week, would be if they were playing at home. With Peyton Manning getting the Broncos off to an early lead, Geno Smith should be forced to pass plenty in an attempt to keep up. When Geno Smith is forced to pass often, I expect mistakes. The Jets offense put up ZERO points last week against the Chargers.
Punting on 3rd Down
Care to Take the Punting on 3rd Down Challenge?
The FanDuel Week 6 punting challenge will be with Teddy Bridgewater ($5,900). The challenge is to play a $1.00 game with Teddy Bridgewater at QB. I’ll be posting my punting lineup in the forum later this week. Highest score wins bragging rights as the Week 6 Champion!
