If you haven’t played in a salary cap format before, here are the basics. Each player has a salary, and you get a fake budget to spend on your team. With your weekly lineup strategy, it’s completely up to you. You can target a group of medium priced players, or play some higher priced studs mixed with value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap. I typically load up on a few stud players, medium valued upside picks, and then gamble on a couple bargain priced or risk/reward players. Here are some value picks I like for Week 13 (based on a $60k budget; sorted by position and price).
Carson Palmer @PHI ($7,300) – Carson Palmer has become a solid value play after his early season struggles. Palmer has thrown for solid yardage and 2 TDs in each of his last 4 games. Palmer faces an Eagles team that is currently giving up the most yardage to opposing QBs.
Eli Manning @WAS ($6,500) – I can’t say that I trust Eli Manning, but he does have a low price and a good matchup this week. Even in a good matchup, I’m still viewing Eli Manning as a risk/reward play.
Matt Flynn @DET ($5,400) – I suspect he will get the start this week, but it’s too early to say for certain. Flynn does have a nice passing matchup and plenty of talent in his receiving pool. I like him for a dirt cheap QB play, but he is a true gamblers play.
Rashad Jennings @DAL ($6,700) – As long as McFadden is out again, I think Jennings is a good value play. Jennings is facing a Dallas team that is yielding the 3rd most yards to opposing RBs. I like that Jennings also stays active in the passing game.
Fred Jackson vs ATL ($5,600) – If you need to pinch at RB, Fred Jackson could be a good play. It’s worth noting that C.J. Spiller is only $5,700. While Spiller has more big play potential, I like that Fred Jackson has been getting the majority of the red zone work.
Nate Burleson vs GB ($5,100) – Burleson looks like he’s back to 100%. He was solid in the early season before his arm injury and he was a great value play last week. His price is only up $600 from last week and could be a good value play again this week.
Denarius Moore @DAL ($4,600) – You’ll want to follow the player news for Moore this week if you’re considering playing him (shoulder). If Moore is practicing well, he could be a good play considering his dirt cheap price. If Moore is out or looking limited, I’d consider Rod Streater for $5,000.
Coby Fleener vs TEN ($5,600) – With the loss of Reggie Wayne and lacking run game, I think Fleener will continue to be a solid value play. He has the upside for a good amount of yardage and is a trusted red zone play for Andrew Luck.
Martellus Bennett @MIN ($5,400) – The Vikings have given up quite a few points to TEs and Bennett has been a good red zone target. With his matchup and price, Bennett could be a good value play this week.
Carolina Panthers vs TB ($5,300) – Coming off a slower week, I’m still expecting the Panthers to rebound as one of the leagues better defenses. I like the value for Carolina at home this week.
New England Patriots @HOU ($5,100) – While the Texans are struggling, the Patriots are playing solid on defense. The Pats could be a strong value play against an inconsistent Case Keenum.
My first thoughts for my own lineup this week is I’ll likely stay cheap at QB and try to find a way to afford Adrian Peterson (Bears matchup this week). I’ll likely play a cheap QB and a WR play like Burleson to free up my budget.
I normally avoid the games that start on Thursday, but the extra Thanksgiving games will likely leave me taking the plunge into some of the Thursday through Monday games. Note: Once the Thursday games start, your lineup locks for the entire week. The risk is yours!
Alright FST Community, I’d love to hear who YOU love (or hate) this week. Post your FanDuel stud, dud or value plays in our Fantasy Football Forum.
