Each week during the NFL season FST brings you our Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups, which breaks down players available in many leagues that could have an immediate impact on your fantasy roster, or simply just players to keep on your radar. Let’s take a look at some players at each position that might be worthy of scooping off the waiver wire heading into Week 9 of the NFL season. If you have any waiver wire questions, feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.

RUNNING BACKS

Daryl Richardson STL | RB

There have been some trade rumors starting to pop up about Steven Jackson, and this makes me like Richardson even more. He continues to outplay Jackson, and I think it’s clear that the Rams are almost ready to hand over the load to Richardson. He has looked great this year averaging over 5 yards per carry, and he gets involved in the passing game as well. I think Richardson could be a difference maker for fantasy teams as we approach the fantasy playoffs. (about 40% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all leagues

Jonathan Dwyer PIT | RB

The Steelers running back situation is turning into a huge mess. When Mendenhall came back it looked like he was going to take the job. Then he got hurt again, and now Dwyer has put together two straight great games. I think Dwyer and Mendenhall should be owned in all leagues until this mess gets figured out. There is a chance it could turn into a nasty timeshare, but I think one of these two will emerge as the featured back. (about 45% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all leagues

Donald Brown IND | RB

At this point all signs are pointing to a nasty timeshare for the Colts, but there is a chance that one back emerges as the featured guy. Brown and Ballard both had solid games week 8, and at this point it’s all up in the air with who will end up with more value. Until this mess shakes out I think both these guys should be owned in deeper leagues. (about 60% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

Vick Ballard IND | RB

At this point all signs are pointing to a nasty timeshare for the Colts, but there is a chance that one back emerges as the featured guy. Brown and Ballard both had solid games week 8, and at this point it’s all up in the air with who will end up with more value. Until this mess shakes out I think both these guys should be owned in deeper leagues. (about 40% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

James Starks GB | RB

I think there is a really good chance that the Packers will have Steven Jackson on their team by the end of the week. However, if they are unable to get a move done then I think Starks will end up taking over as the featured guy. Green just continues to disappoint, and the Packers are going to have to do something to try to get their run game going. (about 15% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

WIDE RECEIVERS

Danny Amendola STL | WR

Amendola was dropped in a ton of leagues after his injury, but it’s time to pick him back up if he is still available. The Rams have their bye week 9 and then they play the 49ers, so he doesn’t offer much instant value. However, if he can get anywhere close to what he was doing before his injury, then he might be able to help when it counts the most. (about 60% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all leagues

Titus Young DET | WR

After a terrible start to the year Young finally had a big game. With defenses continuing to pay a ton of attention to Calvin, and Burleson out for the year with a leg injury, Young might finally have consistent fantasy value. The arrow for Titus Young is pointing straight up and at this point I think he should be owned in all leagues. (about 40% owned)
Recommendation: Should be owned in all leagues

Ryan Broyles DET | WR

The injury to Burleson has done more than put Titus Young back on the map, it has also opened the door for the rookie Broyles. The 2nd round pick out of Oklahoma slipped in the draft due to a knee injury, but he is healthy now and playing at a high level. I am expecting Broyles to be inconsistent, but he should have some more big games this year. (about 10% owned)
Recommendation: Should be owned in deeper leagues

Cecil Shorts JAC | WR

Shorts is quickly making a name for himself in Jacksonville, and at this point I think he is worth an add in all deeper leagues. He has had 2 straight solid games, and I like his potential moving forward since the Jags play a lot of weak passing Ds from here on out. If you are at all in need of a receiver then I think it’s time to give Shorts some serious consideration. (about 10% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

Darrius Heyward-Bey OAK | WR

Heyward-Bey only had 1 catch week 8, but it was a 32 yard touchdown. The Raiders passing game is staring to show some signs of life, and I think Heyward-Bey could put up solid numbers from here on out. He was one of our favorite sleepers coming into the year, and even though he hasn’t look great overall this year I still think he is worth an add in a lot of leagues. (about 50% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

QUARTERBACKS

Brandon Weeden CLE | QB

At first glance a matchup against Baltimore might not sound that good, but they just aren’t the same D these days. Baltimore has been giving up a lot of points and a lot of yards, and Weeden has looked pretty good as of late. If you are one of the teams with Brady on a bye, then you might want to pick up Weeden. (about 25% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look as a pickup and play

Nick Foles PHI | QB

There have been a lot of rumors about a QB change in Philly, and unless Vick really picks things up it will probably happen. Foles is the guy that would take over the job, and the rookie out of Arizona would have some big shoes to fill. I don’t think he worth an add in most leagues, but deeper keeper leagues should take notice and maybe make a move if you have a roster spot. (about 5% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look in deeper leagues

TIGHT ENDS

Greg Olsen CAR | TE

Olsen hasn’t been spectacular this year, but he has been solid and I like him week 9. He is going up against the Skins who are one of the worst teams at stopping the opposing tight end. If you are looking for a bye week fill in for one of the Pats TEs, then I would give Olsen a serious look. (about 60% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look as a pickup and play

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

Detroit DET | DEF

The Lions D has looked better as of late, and with a matchup against the Jags week 9 I think they could have a big week. Jacksonville is averaging less than 15 points per game which is the worst in the league. So look for the Lions to hold the Jags to a low point total, and they should be able to force some turnovers as well. (about 15% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look as a pickup and play

San Diego SD | DEF

I think San Diego is a great pickup and play defense week 9 at home against the Chiefs. The Chiefs are currently a mess at the quarterback position, and they haven’t been able to get Charles going as of late. I expect San Diego to force at least a couple turnovers, and I am not expecting the Chiefs to put too many points on the board. (about 30% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look as a pickup and play

Individual Defensive Player

Wesley Woodyard DEN | LB

I have talked about Woodyard before, and he continues to put up big numbers. However, even with the consistent performance he is still available in a ton of leagues. He is among the league leaders in tackles, and he has hauled in two INTs as well. I expect Woodyard to continue to put up big numbers this year, so if you are looking for a linebacker he is your guy. (about 15% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look in all IDP leagues
