Start ’em Sit ’em is our weekly look at favorable and unfavorable match-ups and how they might affect lineup decisions for your fantasy football team. Other than a few elite players, no one should be classified as a must start every week, and analyzing match-ups can go a long way to giving your team a weekly edge. If you have any start’em sit’em questions feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.
The first player in each position is going to be a lock to start but also my MVP at the position this season. Vick was picked up off waivers this season and has become simply unstoppable. If you got him than you are probably sitting in the championship game and next year he is probably going to be the first quarterback taken.
Last week Grossman put up solid fantasy numbers throwing for four touchdowns and adding two, two point conversations. This week he faces a bad secondary and could prove to be a nice addition to anyone in search of a quarterback in a two qb league or someone willing to take a huge gamble in their championship game.
Who would have thought that Tebow would make any list this season but since he is starting against the Texans he has to since, what have we learned this season. Anyone that throws or catches footballs against this secondary is a good start. With that said don’t go benching any of your studs for him but in a two quarterback league he is a sneaky play this week.
It has been well documented our love for this guy ever since we heard Ben Tate was done for the season but he is over achieved even our high expectations. Foster has been a monster all year long and is the complete fantasy running back. He gets the majority of carries, he is active in the passing game, and gets all the goal lines. He will be a top three overall selection next year and is of course an amazing play this week against a soft Denver run defense.
Forte has had his ups and downs this season but this week might be one of those downs. The Jets had a scary run defense and if they win this week they get into the playoffs giving them next week to rest. One would think they will stack the box, shut down the run game, and hope that Cutler does not carry the team on his shoulders.
If Jones-Drew does not play then Jennings becomes a very very interesting play against the 27th ranked Washington Redskins run defense. Jennings has been brilliant in spots this season and with a full workload against this defense he could be the difference in winning and losing this week.
This was a little bit tough to crown my MVP for wideouts but Roddy won simply due to this consistency and the fact he was even better in a ppr format catching over 100 balls this season. We expect White to be the first receiver taken next season and perform at the same high level. Of course you are starting him this week against a better than average Saints pass defense on Monday night but either way he might just win you a championship.
Its been a tough year for Austin but if you own him you might be greatly rewarded this week. The Cardinals give up a ton of passing yards a game and seem to give up at least one big passing play a week. If anyone on the Cowboys is going to get that big receiving touchdown it is Austin.
The best news about Rice is that fact that he came back looks 100% the bad news is we do not trust who is getting him the ball. Pair that with the fact he is playing a tough Eagles pass defense means he needs to be on your bench this week.
Gates could be the MVP of the tight-ends but the fact he has missed so many games took him out of the running. In steps Witten but he did not win simply by default. Over 80 catches, 900 yards and seven touchdowns is a very solid year in his own right. This week he could very well break 1,000 yards on the season obviously making him a great start.
We wrote about Daniels last week and he had a solid performance but since he is still out there is a ton of leagues we thought we would bring him up one more time. If you need a tight-end at all we love the match-up and this could be the week he finds the end zone.
The Chargers are still in the hunt for the playoffs and needs a win to keep those hopes alive. On the other hand Cincy has no chance to make the playoffs, TO is done for the year, and OchoCinco is not very happy. There is a good chance the Bangles just don’t show up making the Chargers a top five defense this week.
