Is This the End of the Road for Ray Lewis? The week that was #6 in the NFL saw a Monday Night Football Peyton Manning 2nd Half Comeback performance for the ages, a welcome world moment for RGIII, 7 games decided by 3 or few points and a “You mad at me bro?” for Tom Brady. In what continues to be the theme of the NFL and makes every Sunday intriguing is the tremendous amount of parity and fierce competition. Robert Griffin III continues to be the most exciting player to watch and worth every penny to Redskins brass who picked him #2 overall.
What can we say about the Seattle Seahawks that hasn’t been said yet this season? The #2 ranked NFL defense continues to impress and as a result were able to hand the Patriots their third loss already this season. The jabbing continued after the result of the 24-23 victory as Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman continued the onslaught after the game was over by tweeting and vocalizing, “We’re greater than you. We’re better than you. You’re just a man – we’re a team.” The Seahawks will have their hands full with a difficult game on tap Thursday night at Candlestick Park against the 49ers where Russell Wilson will go up against a defense that is just as equally formidable and coming off a beat down at hands of the Super Bowl defending NY Giants.
The Packers laid a whopping on the Houston Texans Sunday night as QB Aaron Rodgers caught fire with 6 TD passes, leaving the Atlanta Falcons as the lone undefeated team this season. The Falcons had a scare of their own as the Raiders nearly forced overtime and picked off Matty Ice and gave them an unexpected scare at home. There is no clear Super Bowl front runner at this point but Atlanta is putting themselves in tremendous position for home field advantage if they can continue their recent dominance.
I would be remiss if I did not devote time to the legendary and future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens. On Sunday Ray Ray suffered a torn triceps that will end his 17th season in the NFL this season. Many speculate that this could be the end of the road for Ray Lewis, but if I know this emotional leader and ferocious defender he will end his career his own way and not as a result of an injury like this one.
Ray Lewis is an institution at the Linebacker position. When one says the word middle linebacker the two legends that stick out are Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis. His career and legacy are known for a never quit and resilient mentality. This is not the last we’ve seen of Ray Lewis and nor should it be. He will leave the NFL on his own terms, he deserves to, that’s the only way he would have it and that’s the way it should be.
Just the tip…only the tip baby…comes to those in need of bye-week help. This week there is a record 6 teams on byes. So in need of bye-week help and don’t know what to do? Waiver wire or trades are the most likely options to fill the voids. Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb if you really think a certain player will have a big game, despite “expert” opinions. You are the point in the season where wins are at a premium and everyone in the league is feeling this pinch. If I had Matt Ryan I wouldn’t hesitate to add Hasselbeck or Freeman who both have great matchups this week. Good luck you knuckeheads!
