AUTODRAFT HORROR! First Post!

Postby pdemarco339 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 5:13 pm

10-team H2H standard keeper league with 4 keepers (Braun, Holliday, Haren, Longo)
I was out of the country during my draft and was horrified upon return. In the first 5 rounds it drafted me 2 SS, 2 2B (including Utley) and a backup 3B (Sandoval).
It also drafted me Carpenter, Bailey, Ryan Madson, Soria and Ike Davis as my starting, and only, 1B.... Luck is clearly on my side.
With NO closers and my 2nd SP being Yu Darvish (horrified) I had to make moves. Only problem is that I play with GOOD people and only 4 of the 10 like to trade.

I will spare the details but I basically just made 3 trades in 48 hours:

Traded away: Matt Holliday, Ryan Braun, Shane Victorino & Asrubal Carbrera
(basically my entire OF and back up SS along with a few guys I picked up on FA after the draft)

Received: Mark Texiera, Mariano Rivera, Joe Nathan, Bumgardner, Josh Johnson, CJ Wilson, Josh Hamilton, JD Martinez (my picks for MVP & Rookie of the Year)

-Its a keeper league so having 22yo: Bumgarnder, Longoria and JDMart could work out perfect.

Here's where I could use some help:
I am thinking I will trade Hamilton just before deadline for a young ACE... Just before he signs a monster contract to Giants/Mets/Cubs/Miami and all his stats plumet from here-on-out.
I have Longoria but I have Sandoval to back him up. I have pretty much dumped steals when I traded victorino & braun so the fact that Longo will get 18 or so SB may be sexy to some, but not me.

Offers on the table: trade Longo & Dan Haren for MiGGY & a bad closer. (harsh, right?)
Here is the complete squad going into week 3:
What do you guys think should be my next move?
Free agency is pretty deep but obviously the top 200 are gone.
Trades? Drops? Adds?

Pretty tough draw there but I think you are moving in the right direction in terms of trades.

In terms of what needs to be done

First and foremost - watch the wire closely, getting guys like Santigo (RP White Sox) or Casilla (RP Giants) is important as they should both start picking up more and more saves

next

I love this idea: I am thinking I will trade Hamilton just before deadline for a young ACE

Hamilton is off to a hot start and if you can get huge value for him even now I would do it....

Good luck

With your recent moves I don't think your team is looking that bad. I really like the idea of trading Hamilton. He is amazing when healthy, but he seems to always be getting hurt. I actually don't mind the Longo & Dan Haren for MiGGY & a bad closer trade depending on how bad of a closer you are talking about. Anytime you can get a top 3 players in the league you have to consider it.

Drops - I am really not seeing anything that is jumping out at me for a potential drop. You have done a good job getting a lot of upside on your team after the auto draft.

I really don't think it is that bad of a team at all, to tell you the truth. The one thing that jumps out at me is that it is a 2xUtil league and you only have Infante as a reserve hitter. You have nine starting pitchers, including Hudson on the DL. I would package Hudson and maybe Garza for another quality outfielder. You may not like what you get with Schafer and Martinez may or may not be ready for prime time... and Hamilton is always getting hurt. I wonder if you could do Hudson/Garza for Brett Gardner? Or maybe one of the two for Nolan Reimold?

Thanks guys. I'm a good fantasy player, just got roughed up in the draft.
Free agency in pretty saturated, lots of teams are choosing to keep young guys on their bench until they get called up after arbitration period ends thus, theres quite a few guys on free agency that are owned in >80% of standard leagues.
It's looking like Soto and Chacin will get dropped when acquisition period resets on monday despite his fair outing last night. I like Chacin, he's Venezuelan like my woman, but he isnt as valuable as anyone on my team.

I like the 2 pitcher packaging. I just traded the best player in baseball to stock up on them. I wouldn't mind getting rid of one, but two pitchers might backfire on me. I have someone offering me:
(Cruz OR McClutchen) AND (Sabatthia OR Weaver) for Longo & a SP (He wants Darvish and I'm not ready to send him packing yet)
But I think McClutchen and Weaver for Longo & Yu might get done

As for packaging Garza up with Hudson: I wouldn't mind doing that, but the right offer is not going to be Gardner. Hudson can give me 12-14 wins and Garza can do the same with 200Ks, he is a potential top20 pitcher with that insane Cubs defensive middle infield, even higher with the Cubbies swinging hot bats. I think thats worth a little more than 40 SBs (which are ALWAYS available on Free Agency as long as you dont mind taking the hit on other categories.) I will probably spot start SB when I play teams with no base stealers and just give the category up when I play guys stacked with SandBaggers.
Week 1 = 4-6 loss
Week 2 = 7-2-1 currently

Infante is benched because he got the day off, he is usually my starting UTL man... with johnson and infante, I really have nowhere to put Utley, but the roster space is free so I cant complain (honestly I would like to sell him low and grab Carpenter or Andrew Bailey for the extra roster spot.)

My closers are weak, but cant expect much when all 3 drafted for me are out the season. So I bulked up on a few and just use them as that "extra little add-on" to big trades I want to happen (classic Fantasy Baseball trick. If you want something and you thing you're getting the better of a guy but he isn't sure he is getting the better of the deal, toss him a closer and they jump right on it works everytime, so keep that in mind boys)
