Hey Guys! How's everything? How much faith do have in Ryan Matthews? Would you consider him a 2nd or 3rd Round pick in a 12 team league? Given a choice, would you draft Matthews, Moreno, Beanie, Shonn Greene, Portis or Ben Tate? Thanks!

I would take Greene if I had the choice, I wouldn't take Mtthews in a one year league but if your in some type of keeper league I would take him with a third round pick, he has alot of upside later in his career but I don't know how much production you are going to get from him. Keep in mind he is still a rookie.

BiggerBoat - welcome back and good to see you in the forums again
Fantasy Football season must be around the corner
Alright to your question:
I ranked below the order I like them first
Shonn Greene
Matthews
Beanie
Moreno
Portis
Ben Tate
I think I am crazy myself for having a kid that has never played a down in the NFL as my number two out of this list but all signs point to a big year for Matthews.
The key is he is not going to be in a potentail 50-50 time share - sure Sproles is a good back but he is and will be a change of pace back only.
Matthews should go in the third however, if he is there at the end of the second - not a bad a pick at all (risky but not a bad pick)
Good to see you back

It's good to be back and I am getting very psyched for this fantasy season! Thanks for your thoughts. Very interesting. I have a lot more questions about the "2nd Tier" of RB's for this coming season, but I'm going to pace myself. LOL. Feels like a crapshoot after the top backs. Some of these rookies and second year players are bound to be quite valuable as the #2 starting RB on your roster. We'll be talking. Glad SmackTalk is still running strongl. Thanks for the welcome back!

Boat!!! Whats up? Glad to see you back. I agree 100% with Brent's rankings. Out of that list Greene has the most upside, but the top 4 on this list are very close. They will go within 10 picks of each other in almost all drafts. Portis and Tate are much bigger question marks but they will offer good value in the mid/later rounds.

Hey Boat! Yeah Matthews has been going very early, but I do like him this year because of his situation. As the running back by committee era is in full force in the NFL, after the first couple rounds it is hard to get a back that is not in some kind of backfield timeshare.
Norv Turner loves to feature a workhorse back in his offense and we see Darren Sproles as a chance of pace option. I would agree with the guys that Greene would be the only RB I would consider taking before him, but if you do take Matthews I would probably snag Sproles as a handcuff because of Matthew's injury history.
Good luck this season,
Mike
