What’s going on Cerano50,
I am going to have to level with you on this one. I had never watched a second of Fantasyland prior to your post. I had heard of it, and when hearing of it, I knew that I would watch it at some point.
So tonight I was checking the forums while I was brushing my teeth (about to go to sleep) and saw your post "Fantasyland?" and as a responsible "guru" I stayed up and watched the entire movie.
Here are my first thoughts (now keep in mind I literally just finished watching the movie so I have had zero time to let everything settle in)
Overall B-
I loved the first half of the documentary. As a fantasy sports enthusiast I was all smiles watching Jed prep for his draft, meeting the big time players (talking about the fantasy world players but the mlb players was good as well), and of course the live draft itself. I found it interesting to see how these experts conducted themselves in the auction draft. Very fast paced and big jumps in dollar values. Sometimes those big jumps would end the bidding and I wondered if these guys were leaving money on the table. Thinking back that is definitely a great strategy such a large increase would have to scare off many people since they would be thinking that you are over paying for someone. When in reality you might have just got them at a discounted rate due to the shock value. (always looking for the edge, even while watching a movie)
Back the "quick review" the middle got a little slow to be honest I did not care for the random cuts to the random people with the random fantasy baseball/football stories. Of course, I get why it was in there, since I can relate. I mean all of our girlfriends/wives think we spend way too much time on our fantasy teams. But did I really need to hear other people's wives b*tch about it?
Jed did remind me of Dustin with all the trade talks. Dustin does not go to that extreme but his "I am really helping your team" line or giving the stats that would help make a trade seem good, when it might not be that good for you was right out of Dustin's playbook. Also Dustin will start offering trades the second the draft is over and normally get one done in the first few days. Now to be fair he does send good "thinker" trades 99 out of 100 times.
The ending part starts with the Cubs game and yes - I did watch that scene more than once. Only if the camera was three inches to the left. (you know the scene I do not want to ruin it for anyone else). The end got back to the season which was much better but not as good as the first part. I felt his pain when Rivera blew the save because that has happened to all of us and it sucks - but that is what makes fantasy sports great.
I did root for his team overall but more importantly I rooted against Matthew Berry. (he was part of the reason we started this site - he is a donk that gives awful advice to people year after year)
I want to apologize if this post makes no sense at all since it is a little late now and I am kind of out of it. (I will re-read it in the morning)
I must thank you however, I have been meaning to watch that and I did enjoy it very much.

I hear ya Brent...I stumbled across the movie and since this is my first MLB fantasy expierence I had to watch it. I can say I'm years away from being that intense however i will admit i am addicted at this point.
I've worked in sports for 10 years and never knew what all the hype of fantasy sports was about...who knew it would take so long to get bitten by the fantasy bug....BTW I stumbled across FST website when one of our NFL insiders was watching before a production meeting in his office. I cant say for sure if he gets alot of info from you guys but watching it before a meeting it didnt take a genius to figure it out...i thnk that guy owes you a check in the mail LOL
i thought the film was interesting but it did have interviews in the middle that could of been left out of the movie. I would of liked to see more of Jed (aka Dustin) pissing off members of the league. The only thing i didnt get is what made it the so called best league...and what made them the smartest players? You Dustin and Mike grind it out all year on FST so who is to say you guys could not have been invited and ran away with the trophy? I say you guys try and enter next year and show them who are the real gurus of fantasy sports LOL.
and final thought...is it me or is Verlander is a jerk?....could be jed was just too annoying.
And when are you guys gonna get FST T-shirts, hats, mugs, bumper stckers, etc...and sell it on this site. i need a black FST T-shirt!!!!

Hello 50,
I am years if not a lifetime away from being just like Jed - there is only so much information out there, but it is impressive what he does.
If you do not mind me asking what part of the sports industry are you in? Dont worry I am not going to be asking anyone for a check

that is why we put our information out there.
The whole "smartest" players are simply other fantasy sites and really the old school guys - I am sure if FantasySmackTalk got invited to the league we would certainly hold our own. Thank you for the vote of confidence we all appreciate it.
I agree that Verlander seemed like a donkey but I am sure he thought Jed was a little much since Jed basically told Verlander that he owned him about 39 times.
And last yes we have talked about shirts etc..........I think it is a little longer down the road however, once it happens yours will be on the house since you were the first to ask and a loyal member.
Take care

You guys should get a PO Box so we can send you some free gear in the future!!!! And yes it's true I walked in and saw an insider(guru) watching one of the shows from FST.com and not youtube...so it did not take long to to figure out who the real guru's are....Keep up the good work guys!!!!

Classic undersell.
Should have seen it coming.
Don't buy shirts too soon if it means I have to buy this cite
I'm just a poor little college student. MIDWEST and don't give me any of that Cubs crap.
My sox ain't white either. I belong to the true Nation sounce birdth.
But its nice to see you guys have good family around.
If you guys get shirts it would be cool to have one and send you my two National Cent.s worth.
That goes to you too 50.
I don't have a resume yet, but I'll send one with my current two teams and this May's diploma.
Last Joke for St. Louis-- Pirates don't write poetry but Pujoles once told me that Houston won't come in Lastings by far if Cubs had to get Milkwalked down. It would also be a cin if we were challenged. They're close but I expected it to seem that way until the end. Pujoles also said don't put your finger where you wouldn't put your face!

Kind of gives you the feeling that you know the guys personally and the daily videos are helpful for a rook like me. And if Dirty is hating on me then late him hate LOL!!!!
This football season will be my 1 year anniversary playing fantasy: got 2nd in NFL, NBA Champion, and I'm 4th in MLB and leading my HR Derby League.................Keep up the good work Dustin, Brent, and all the crew at FST!!!!
