Each week our Fantasy Baseball experts will give fantasy owners their top choices for players to pick up for all leagues, as well as some players to consider in deeper leagues. If you have any Fantasy Baseball questions for our experts feel free to post them in post them in our Fantasy Sports Forum.

Delmon Young MIN | OF

Young is 5th in the league in RBI’s and he is getting no love in the fantasy world. He is still young, he is batting for average and power, and it’s time to pick him up. We have been waiting for a lot time for Young to have a break out season, and it looks like 2010 is the year. (about 75% owned)

Jack Cust OAK | OF

We don’t think Cust has a huge upside, but he should be a nice source of power. He is available in a lot of leagues and could be worth an add if you need any extra pop in your outfield. He is batting over .300 in the last month with good power. (about 15% owned)

Austin Jackson DET | OF

After an amazing start Jackson cooled off big time during May and June, but it looks like he has his bat going again. He is batting over .340 in July and he is worth an add if you are looking at improving your batting average. He will also throw in a few steals and a good amount of runs. (about 50% owned)

View Poll

Starlin Castro CHC | SS

Castro isn’t going to give you any power, but he has been batting for a great average lately. He is batting .380 in the last month and he has decent speed and RBI totals as well. It looks like Castro could be the real deal and he is worth a look if you need help at shortstop. (about 30% owned)

Gordon Beckham CWS | 2B/3B

We have talked about Beckham for a couple weeks in a row now, but he is still available in a ton of leagues. He has a huge upside and his position eligibility makes him even more desirable. It looks like he has finally got his bat going and he should have a great second half. (about 60% owned)

Alfredo Simon BAL | RP

Simon is far from the best closer in the league, and he plays for one of the worst teams. However, he is still worth a roster spot in most leagues. He will give you a decent ERA, and give you an ok amount of saves. Simon should not be available in 60% of leagues, add him to your team if you need help with saves. (about 40% owned)

J.J. Putz CWS | RP

It looks like Jenks is out as the White Sox closer, but it is yet to be seen who is going to take over. Putz is one of the likely candidates and he has been one of the best relief pitchers in 2010. Putz will have huge value if he ends up taking over the closer job. (about 35% owned)

Matt Thornton CWS | RP

Thornton has had some rocky outings this year, but for the most part he has put up amazing number. He is in the running for the closer job in Chicago and in our opinion has the upper hand. Whoever takes over the closer role with the White Sox is going to have a ton of value, and our money is on Thornton. (about 60% owned)

Add in all leagues

Delmon Young MIN | OF

How is Young still only owned in 60% of leagues? He is a young player with a ton of upside, and he is having a great year. He is batting over .300 and he is on pace to have well over 100 RBI’s. Pick him up now if he is still available. (about 60% owned)

Carlos Quentin CWS | OF

In the last month Quentin has been one of the hottest players in baseball. He has been batting for power and average, and it seems like he has found his power stroke again. It looks like the Quentin from 2008 could be back. (about 75% owned)

Chase Headley SD | 3B/OF

Headley started out the season on fire, but quickly came crashing back down to earth. Recently however, he has started to hit the ball a lot better and it seems like he is breaking out of his slump. His position eligibility is a nice plus and we think he could have value for the rest of the season. (about 50% owned)

Matt LaPorta CLE | 1B/OF

We talked about LaPorta before the all-star break, and he is still putting up solid numbers. This youngster has a big upside and we think he is worth a roster spot in most leagues. (about 20% owned)

View Poll

Gordon Beckham CWS | 2B/3B

Beckham was one of our favorite sleepers coming into the season, but he has really struggled to get his bat going. However, he is starting to show some signs of breaking out of this slump, and we think it’s time to pick him up before someone else does. (about 50% owned)

Brian Roberts BAL | 2B

When healthy, Roberts is a top 5 second basemen, and he should be back in the Orioles lineup within the next week. We aren’t sure if he will be able to make an instant impact, but if he is truly healthy he will help your team when it counts the most. (about 70% owned)

Max Scherzer DET | SP

The main thing that sticks out about Scherzer is his strikeout totals. He has 7+ strikeouts in 7 of his last 9 games. He is going to be inconsistent, but we expect him to pitch many gems in the second half of the season. (about 60% owned)

Wandy Rodriguez HOU | SP

Wandy has been a big disappointment this year and he has not made his owners very happy. He has started to show some signs of figuring it out, and he is worth picking up if you need a SP. He showed us last year what he is capable of, and we think he will have a lot of good starts in the second half of the 2010 season. (about 70% owned)

John Axford MIL | RP

Axford has been amazing so far this year, but he is still available in a lot of leagues. He has a sub 3 ERA, a 5-1 record, and he is perfect on all 12 of his save opportunities. What does he have to do to get picked up? We think he should have value for the rest of the season, and he should be owned in almost all leagues at this point. (about 55% owned)

After a frustrating start to the season, Adam Jones has raised his average nearly 20 points in June and is showing shades of his breakout 2009 season.

Add in all leagues

Esmerling Vasquez ARI | RP

It doesn’t seem like anyone wants the closer job out in Arizona. Qualls is out, and Heilman has been far from impressive. Vasquez could be the next guy to get a shot, and could be worth an add in deeper leagues. (about 5% owned)

John Axford MIL | RP

We were surprised how many leagues Axford was still available in. His ERA isn’t amazing but he should get a lot of save chances. We think Axford has a good upside, and he should be owned in almost all leagues at this point. (about 45% owned)

J.J. Putz CWS | RP

Putz has been one of the hottest relief pitchers in the league in the last 6 weeks, and he could find himself in the closer role very soon. With Jenks having his ups and downs and Thornton hitting a few bumps in the road, Putz could get a shot. (about 10% owned)

Trevor Cahill OAK | SP

Cahill has had a quality start in 8 of his last 9 outings, and is putting together a great season. He is a young pitcher with upside, and could be worth an add. His K’s per innings pitched isn’t that great, but we still think he could have value for the rest of the season. (about 40% owned)

View Poll

Carlos Quentin CWS | OF

After a terrible ‘09 season Quentin is trying to have a bounce back year. He has found his power stroke over the last month, hitting 8 HR’s so far in June. His average could still use some work, but he does have the potential of keeping up these power numbers. (about 60% owned)

Adam JonesBAL | OF

Jones has been on fire lately and it looks like he might be onto something big. We know Jones has a big upside, and over the last month he has reminded us what he is capable of. So far this June he has 7 HR’s and is batting over .300. If he is available in your league we say pick him up now. (about 75% owned)

Carlos Santana CLE | C

There are been a lot of hype around this rookie catcher and for good reason. He has really taken advantage of his playing time, and he is starting to get peoples attention. We like his upside but he is a rookie after all. Don’t be surprised if he has some low spots this season, but if you need a catcher he could be worth an add. (about 55% owned)

Chipper Jones ATL | 3B

Chipper is starting to show some signs of maybe breaking out of this slump. He is batting over .300 in the last week, and we think Jones might still have a little left in the tank. He has been dropped in a lot of leagues but if you need help at third it might be time to pick him back up. (about 60% owned)

Garrett Jones PIT | 1B/OF

Jones could be on the verge of a break out season. He is proving he can bat for average and power, and he even throws in a few stolen bases. With the added bonus of dual position eligibility we think Jones has a lot of things going for him. (about 60% owned)

Gaby Sanchez FLA | 1B

Sanchez is another youngster with upside that is starting to get picked up in some leagues. He has a big upside and he has put together an amazing June. He is batting .368 with 4 HR’s so far this month, and at the very least he is worth keeping a close eye on. (about 20% owned)

Add in all leagues

Huston Street COL | RP

Street just came off the DL and it should only be a matter of time until he is the Rockies closer. We don’t expect a great ERA, but he should get a decent amount of save opportunities. (about 75% owned)

Aaron Heilman ARI | RP

Qualls has been awful this year and it looks like he has finally lost his job. As of now, it looks like Heilman is going to be the man in the 9th for the Diamondbacks. We think you should also keep a close eye on Esmerling Vasquez, but if you are going to pick up anyone it should be Heilman. (about 25% owned)

Rajai Davis OAK | OF

We were high on Davis coming into this year, but he is just now starting to put up numbers. In the last month he is batting over .300 with 11 SB’s. We think he is a must add if you are looking for speed. (about 60% owned)

View Poll

Chris Coghlan FLA | OF

Coghlan has raised his average about .65 points in the last month. It looks like he is back to being the same player he was at the end of last year. Coghlan should have value for the rest of the season, and he has the potential of batting for a great average. (about 55% owned)

Julio Borbon TEX | OF

Borbon could be the hottest player in baseball right now. He is batting .380 in his last 79 AB’s and he has brought his average all the way up to 294. In our opinion Borbon should almost be universally owned, get him now. (about 35% owned)

Delmon YoungMIN | OF

It looks like this is the year that Young has his break out season. He has been playing great lately, and we think this good play could continue. Young has been on fire in the last month and should be picked up in all leagues. (about 40% owned)

Miguel Montero ARI | C

In our opinion Montero is easily a top 5 catcher and he should be owned in all leagues. He has a huge upside and the potential to bat for a good average. Even if you already have a good catcher Montero will give you instant trade value. (about 60% owned)

Aubrey Huff SF | 1B/OF

The old man might not be done yet. Huff had a big year in ‘08 but he really struggled last year. We aren’t saying he is a must add but with dual position eligibility he could be a nice addition to any fantasy team. (about 55% owned)

Each week our Fantasy Baseball experts will give fantasy owners their top choices for players to pick up for all leagues, as well as some players to consider in deeper leagues.
Add in all leagues

Edwin Jackson ARI | SP

Jackson had a decent year last season but this year he has had some struggles. Lately he has pitching better and he has lowered his ERA about 3 points in the last 6 weeks, and his K counts have been impressive. He is far from a must add but you should at least keep an eye on him. (about 60% owned)

Jason Motte STL | RP

Motte has been pitching lights out lately. He has only given up 1 earned run in the last month, and he has had great K counts during that time. If setup men have any value in your league you might want to pick him up, he should give you a good ERA while mixing in some wins and strikeouts. (about 5% owned)

Jay Bruce CIN | OF

We were surprised to see that Bruce was still available in about 30% of leagues. His numbers so far this year aren’t going to blow you away, but they are decent and his upside is as big as they come. (about 70% owned)

View Poll

Adam Jones BAL | OF

Everyone remembers how hot Jones started out last year, but he hasn’t been that impressive since then and he has been dropped in a lot of leagues. He is starting to show some signs of life and it might be time to pick him back up if he was dropped in your league. (about 70% owned)

Julio Borbon TEX | OF

We were really high on Borbon as a sleeper outfielder, but after a terrible start he was dropped in a ton of leagues. We weren’t sure if he would be able to break out of his slump, but he has in a big way. He has raised his average almost 70 points in the last month and we think he is a must add at this point. (about 30% owned)

Delmon YoungMIN | OF

It seems like Young has been around forever, but he is still only 25 and he is on pace for career numbers. We know Young has a big upside but he has never been able to put it all together, this could be the year he finally breaks out. (about 20% owned)

Sean Rodriguez TB | 2B/OF

Rodriguez has been a nice surprise for the Rays this year. He recently had a 14 game hit streak in which he raised his average 80 points. If you are at all looking for a second basemen you might want to look at Rodriguez. We doubt he will bat for much power, but it looks like he does have the potential to bat for average. (about 10% owned)

Howie Kendrick LAA | 2B

Kendrick was our favorite sleeper second basemen coming into the season and we were shocked to see he is only owned in 70% of leagues. He has started to find his stroke during the last month and we think he is a must add. He should have value for the rest of the season and he should be universally owned at this point. (about 70% owned)

Add in all leagues

Brett Cecil TOR | SP

If you take away Cecil’s terrible start in mid May he would have amazing numbers. He is 4-0 over his last 4 starts, and he has had quality starts in each one of those outings. Cecil is a young pitcher with upside and at the very least he should be added to your watch list. (about 40% owned)

Tyler Clippard WAS | RP

As predicted Capps has started to slip as the Nationals closer and Clippard should be next in line for saves. Clippard has pitched well all year, and we are confident he will find himself pitching in the 9th inning by the end of the year. (about 70% owned)

Evan Meek PIT | RP

Meek continues to put up amazing numbers, and we think he will eventually take over the closer role. Dotel has been pitching good as well, but if he starts to slip we think Meek will swoop right in and take over. (about 20% owned)

John Axford MIL | RP

It looks like the closer job is Axford’s to lose at this point. He has not been pitching lights out, but he has pitched well enough so far to hold onto the job. We doubt Axford will have a sub 2 ERA, but he could put up decent save totals with good K counts. (about 30% owned)

View Poll

Brad Lidge PHI | RP

We aren’t sold that the old Lidge is back, but he has been putting up solid numbers so far this year. He isn’t a must add at this point, but if you need saves you could do a lot worse. (about 60% owned)

Chris Coghlan FLA | OF

After a terrible start Coghlan has started to catch fire in the last month. He has been hitting for power and average, while mixing in some speed as well. We think its time to pick Coghlan back up, he is a must add in all leagues at this point. (about 50% owned)

Kurt Suzuki OAK | C

How is Suzuki only owned in 70% of leagues? His bat is coming alive and he should be owned in almost all leagues. He has top 5 catcher potential and you would be crazy not to pick him up if he is available. (about 75% owned)

Andres Torres SF | OF

Torres is an interesting young player that could be worth a roster spot in some leagues. In the last month he has hit for a good average while stealing a lot of bags. We aren’t sure if he can keep it up, but he is definitely worth keeping an eye on. (about 10% owned)

Buster Posey SF | 1B/C

Posey has been very impressive since he was called up from the minors, and he has been flying off the waiver wire. He is catcher and first base eligible which is a huge plus, and he is worth an add if you need help in either of those two positions. His numbers will probably come crashing back down, but we think he could have value for the rest of the season. (about 55% owned)

Justin Smoak TEX | 1B

When Smoak first got called up everyone was running to go pick him up, but he didn’t exactly get off to a good start. He has just recently started to hit the ball a little better and its time to at least put Smoak back on your radar. (about 15% owned)

Rookies

Every year there are a decent amount of rookies that come storming out of the gate and get picked up in a lot of leagues. Guys like Jason Heyward, Ike Davis, Buster Posey, David Freese, Austin Jackson, Stephen Strasburg, Mike Stanton, and John Jaso are all owned in a lot of leagues but only a few will have value for the entire season. Once the veterans figure out these rookies and exploit their weaknesses, there numbers will come back down to earth. We aren’t saying you shouldn’t own some of these guys, we are just saying if you can trade them and get proven players in return we say go for it.

Add in all leagues

Mat Latos SD | SP

With 6 straight quality starts we can’t believe that Latos is still available in 35% of leagues. This youngster has a ton of upside, and in our opinion he should be owned in almost all leagues at this point. (about 65% owned)

John Ely LAD | SP

After a rocky first start Ely has had 6 straight quality starts, and this rookie looks like he could be the real deal. Just like with Latos we can’t believe how many leagues he is still available. Ely is your man if you are looking for a young pitcher to take a gamble on. (about 30% owned)

Ervin Santana LAA | SP

Santana had a terrible year last year but it looks like he might have a bounce back year. He has always had good K counts we all know he has a huge upside. He is still only 27 and we think he is a great gamble at this point of the season. (about 70% owned)

Anibal Sanchez FLA | SP

This young pitcher has really impressed as of late. He has had a quality start in 7 of his last 8 outings, and he is worth a look in all leagues. His control is still very much a problem, but at the very least you need to add Sanchez to your radar. (about 30% owned)

View Poll

Octavio Dotel PIT | RP

We have never really been a big fan of Dotel, but it is hard to ignore what he has done in the last month. During that time frame he has pitched 12 innings, he has a 1-0 record, 9 saves and only allowed 1 ER. We think he does come back down to earth, but you might as well pick him up and ride out this hot streak. (about 60% owned)

John Axford MIL | RP

The 9th inning has been a nightmare for the Brewers so far this year. We thought Villanueva was next in line, but know it looks like Axford has the upper hand. We still think Hoffman will get a chance to win back his job, but he will have to battle Axford for the right to pitch in the 9th inning. (about 15% owned)

Jason Frasor TOR | RP

Frasor started the year as the closer, but after a slow start he lost his job to Kevin Gregg. However, it is Gregg that is now on the hot seat and we think Frasor is next in line to close games in Toronto. We don’t think Gregg has lost the job just yet, but one more bad outing and we think there will be some changes. Scott Downs will also be in the running for the closer role, but we give the slight edge to Frasor. (about 20% owned)

Corey Hart MIL | OF

Hart has a quite 14 HR’s so far this year, which is good enough to be tied for 2nd in all of baseball. A few years back Hart was one of the most interesting young outfielders, but he never put together a huge fantasy year. He is still only 28 and he could be on the verge of a break out year. If you need any help in the power department Hart could be your guy. (about 60% owned)

Chipper Jones ATL | 3B

The old man is starting to get his bat going and it might be time to pick him back up if he was dropped in your league. He has raised his average 24 points over the last 6 games, and it looks like he is breaking out of his slump. (about 60% owned)

Value in Setup men

Good setup men can really help your fantasy team, especially in leagues that have minimum innings pitched requirements. Good setup men can almost help your team out as much as a good closer. They will help you get to your minimum innings while giving you a good ERA, WHIP, K’s, and normally a decent amount of wins. All three of these guys are available in a ton of leagues and should be picked up in certain situations.
Luke Gregerson SD, Evan Meek PIT, Sean Marshall CHC

It’s about F’ing time

All these guys got off to slow starts this season, but lately they have shown signs of life. Hopefully you didn’t drop or trade these guys cheap because it looks like they might be turning the corner.
Jose Reyes, Mark Teixeira, Rajai Davis, Adam Dunn, Jose Lopez, Victor Martinez

Add in all leagues

Mat Latos SD | SP

This young pitcher has been very impressive this year. He has had a quality start in 6 of his last 7 outings, which is amazing for a 23 year old pitcher. We really like his upside and we say pick him up know before someone else does. (about 60% owned)

Johnny Cueto CIN | SP

Cueto has been pitching really well over his last 4 starts, and it might be time to pick him up. He has had a quality start in each of those 4 games, he also recored 3 wins and had good strikeout totals. At the very least Cueto should be put back on your radar for potential pitchers to pick up. (about 65% owned)

John Buck TOR | C

We talked about Buck a little while back thinking he could be a decent temporary fix if you had an injured catcher, but it looks like Buck might be here to stay. We don’t think his numbers are going to blow you away, but we wouldn’t be shocked if he ends the season as a top 10 catcher. (about 50% owned)

View Poll

John Jaso TB | C

Manager Joe Madden has had nothing but great things to say about his rookie catcher and for good reason. He is batting .328 and has 18 RBI’s in just 67 AB’s so far this year. We doubt he will keep up this pace, but anytime a catcher is batting over .300 it is worth taking note. (about 10% owned)

David Ortiz BOS | 1B

What has gotten into Ortiz lately? He looks like the Ortiz of old with 8 HR’s and 21 RBI’s in the month of May. Ortiz has battled injuries over the last couple years, but he appears to be healthy. We see no reason why you shouldn’t pick up Ortiz, if he stays healthy he could keep up these numbers. (about 70% owned)

Cody Ross FLA | OF

Ross has huge breakout potential this year but after a slow start a lot of people had written him off. However, he has been playing amazing so for this May. He is batting over .350 with some speed and decent power. Ross is definitely worth an add in most leagues but at the very least add him to your watch list. (about 35% owned)

Drew Stubbs CIN | OF

Stubbs was one of our favorite late round sleepers coming into this year, (or in Brent’s case mid-round sleeper) but he didn’t exactly get off to the best start. He was dropped in almost all leagues, but it might be time to pick him back up. He has been batting for a better average and throwing in a little power in there as well. If Stubbs can get his average up closer to .300 he could be a great speed specialist. (about 15% owned)

Chris Young ARI | OF

Young is having a sneaky good year so far. He already has 36 RBI’s, decent HR and steal totals, and he is batting .300. We think Young should be owned in all leagues at this point. (about 75% owned)

Buy Low – Sell High

Sell High – Ubaldo Jimenez, Paul Konerko, Vladimir Guerrero, Justin Morneau, Matt Capps

Buy Low - Dan Haren, Felix Hernandez, Jimmy Rollins, Jacoby Ellsbury, Gordon Beckham

Add in all leagues

Tim Hudson ATL | SP

When you look at Hudson’s career stats he has never had a big drop off. If he can stay healthy we expect a good win total and a sub 4 ERA. We think Hudson should be picked up in virtually all leagues at this point. (about 75% owned)

C.J. Wilson TEX | SP

Wilson finally had a bad start, but if you look at his season totals they are still impressive. We think he will bounce back with his next start, and Wilson should have fantasy value for the entire season. (about 70% owned)

View Poll

Matt Latos SD | SP

This tall youngster has all the upside in the world, and we think he is a great gamble at this point. Latos has decent strikeout totals and only 9 walks in 43 inngings. He hasn’t given up an earned run in either of his last two starts, and we like his potential moving forward. (about 40% owned)

Wade LeBlanc SD | SP

We think LeBlanc has a decent upside but his high whip and walk totals scare us a bit. He is someone that you need to keep an eye on and maybe pickup in deeper leagues. (about 25% owned)

Evan Meek PIT | RP

Dotel has not been off to a good start, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Pirates shake things up in their bullpen. Meek has been by far the best pitcher in the Pirates bullpen, and we think at some point this season he could take over the closer role. (about 15% owned)

Hunter Pence HOU | OF

Pence got off to a terrible start this season, but he is starting to catch fire. We all know he has a huge upside, and there is a great chance he ends up having a good season. (about 75% owned)

Mike Aviles KC | 2B/SS

Aviles had a terrible year last year, but he has started this year on fire. He should bat for a decent average and with second base and shortstop eligibility he has a big upside. If you need help in the middle infield Aviles could be your guy. (about 20% owned)

Alberto Callaspo KC | 2B/3B

Callaspo has done it all so far this year, and when you factor in his position eligibility we think he is a must add. He is a young player with a ton of upside, and it looks like this could be his break out year. (about 60% owned)

Brennan Boesch DET | OF

This rookie has taken full advantage of his playing time with the Tigers. In 75 AB’s he is batting almost .400 with decent power. There is no guarantee that he holds onto his job once everyone is healthy in Detroit, but we would be shocked if they don’t find a way to keep him in the lineup. (about 25% owned)

Drop ‘em Keep ‘em

Drop ‘em – Nate McLouth, Adam Jones, Raul Ibanez, Javier Vazquez
Keep ‘em – Grady Sizemore, Aaron Hill, Aramis Ramirez, Chipper Jones, Gordon Beckham, Chone Figgins, Carlos Lee, Carlos Pena, Josh Beckett

Josh Beckett's recent back injury and slow start may have frustrated many Fantasy owners and he is one of several buy-low candidates our experts suggest targeting.

Add in all leagues

Matt Thornton CWS | RP

At this point it is only a matter of time until Thornton takes over the closer role in Chicago. Jenks has been slipping lately and we truly feel it’s time for Thornton to step in. Don’t wait until the news is official, pick him up now before it is too late. (about 65% owned)

Alfredo Simon BAL | RP

So far so good for Simon as the closer for Baltimore. If you need a closer we think he is a good gamble. There will definitely be some bumps in the road, but he could be a decent pickup. (about 30% owned)

View Poll

Scott Podsednik KC | OF

Podsednik is healthy and playing great. We weren’t sure he would be able to keep it up, but we are almost 2 months into the season and he is still playing great. If you are looking for speed in the outfield then snag Podsednik. (about 65% owned)

Brett Gardner NYY | OF

Gardner is taking full advantage of his everyday job with the Yankees, and we think he should be owned in all leagues. He is a great speed specialist and should bat for a decent average. We think Gardner could be a big name in fantasy for many years to come. (about 75% owned)

Chase Headley SD | 3B/OF

Headley has been on a lot of peoples radar over the last couple years and now we know why. He is putting up great numbers so far, and to top it all off he has 9 stolen bases. His third base eligibility makes him a must add in our opinion. (about 75% owned)

Starlin Castro CHC | SS

Few major leaguers have had a more impressive first game then Castro with a HR, a triple and 6 RBI’s. We never really put much stock in rookies in fantasy baseball but at the very least Castro is worth keeping an eye on. (about 15% owned)

David Freese STL | 3B

Freese has a big upside and few players will have as many RBI opportunities as Feese. He bats fifth in the Cardinals lineup after Ludwick, Pujols, and Holliday. He is going to have plenty of AB’s with ducks on the pond and he should have good RBI totals this year. (about 55% owned)

Buy Low

B.J. Upton, Justin Upton, Felix Hernandez, Josh Beckett, Chonge Figgins

Sell High

Andre Ethier, Austin Jackson, Jason Heyward, Vladimir Guerrero, Paul Konerko, Ubaldo Jiménez
