Our weekly fantasy football waiver wire takes a look at the top pickups for Week 9 of the NFL season. Many of these players are still available in a majority of leagues and could have an immediate impact on your fantasy roster. Others might be worth stashing on your bench, or are simply just players to add to your watch list. If you have any waiver wire questions, feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.

Running Backs

Derrick Henry TEN | RB

I am going to keep it simple with Henry, if you own DeMarco Murray then you need to own Henry. The Titans are one of the only remaining teams that prefer to use a workhorse running back and if Murray were to get hurt then Henry would still offer you RB1 value. With how much the Titans are running Murray it’s only a matter of time before he gets hurt. (about 50% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all leagues

Tim Hightower NO | RB

Mark Ingram fumbled early in the game for the Saints Week 8 and he watched the rest of the game from the sidelines. This opened the door for Hightower to take over as the lead back and he took full advantage. He proved last year that he can handle the load if called upon and the Saints are going to look at him more moving forward. (about 5% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all leagues

Kenneth Dixon BAL | RB

John Harbaugh wants to get their rookie running back more involved after their Week 8 bye and it’s time to pick this guy up. Terrance West has been solid, but it’s still very possible that Dixon could take over that job just by playing better than West. If you have a bench spot that you are looking to fill with a high upside running back then I say go with Dixon. (about 15% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

Bilal Powell NYJ | RB

Powell continues to prove that he can have week to week fantasy value with limited touches. He is still a guy that is hard to trust each week, but in PPR leagues he can be a flex option if you are in a pinch. The main reason I like Powell as an add though, is because I think he could be a top 15 running back if Matt Forte were to go down with injury. (about 40% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all deeper leagues

Terron Ward ATL | RB

The Falcons are on a short week playing the Bucs on Thursday and there is a good chance they will rest Tevin Coleman for another week. This would open the door for Ward to get some work again Week 9 and he could be a decent flex play if you need running back help. Ward had seven touches against the Packers Week 8 and I would expect about the same if Coleman sits another week. (about 5% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all deeper leagues

Peyton Barber TB | RB

Jacquizz Rodgers limped off the field late in the game Week 8 and it’s possible he won’t be ready for their Thursday night game against the Falcons. Much like most other running back situations it gets cloudy when looking at who would benefit from the injury. It will be some kind of committee with Barber and Antone Smith, but I think Barber has the most upside between the two. (about 10% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all deeper leagues

C.J. Prosise SEA | RB

Prosise is starting to get more work and he has some flex appeal moving forward. With Thomas Rawls still recovery the Seahawks have turned to Prosise to be the backup for Christine Michael and I think Prosise will slowly get more involved. Michael had ten touches compared to eight for Prosise and if this split continues then Prosise will have some weekly upside. (about 5% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all deeper leagues

Charcandrick West KC | RB

Spencer Ware suffered a concussion Week 8 and it’s possible he misses some time. West is the clear cut backup and as long as Jamaal Charles stays out then he could be a decent spot start if Ware is unable to go. Hopefully we will know more about the Ware injury before we have to place waiver claims. (about 10% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all deeper leagues

Wide Receivers

Jamison Crowder WAS | WR

I talked about Crowder last week as a guy to add in deeper leagues, but at this point he needs to be owned in all. The Redskins receiver is in the middle of a breakout season with his second straight 100+ yard game and he is still only owned in about half of all leagues. Even though he won’t help you in the short term with a bye Week 9 and then the Vikings Week 10, I still think he is a great add and someone that could help you down the stretch. (about 50% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in all leagues

J.J. Nelson ARI | WR

The downfall of Michael Floyd continues and in the NFL when someone’s stock goes down, there is typically someone else’s stock who goes up. In this case that person is J.J. Nelson and it looks like he will have a role in that offense moving forward. The Cardinals passing game has been somewhat disappointing this season and it looks like they are shaking things up to try to get things going. (about 5% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

Quarterbacks

Josh McCown CLE | QB

The Browns defense is terrible and if they are going to win, then they will have to outscore their opponent. This means McCown will be asked to throw the ball a good amount each week and this could lead to some big games. In the two games McCown has started he is averaging 300 yards and two touchdowns per game and I think he could have value in deeper leagues down the stretch. (about 5% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look as a pickup and play

Tight End

Eric Ebron DET | TE

We know Ebron has the size and the talent, we are just waiting for him to stay healthy and put it all together. He finally came back Week 8 and he had a productive game and he is an interesting tight end moving forward. He has a meeting with the Vikings next week and then a Week 10 bye, but long term he could offer top ten tight end value. (about 40% owned)
Recommendation: Should be added in deeper leagues

Defenses

Green Bay GB | DEF

The Packers are at home against the Colts Week 9 and I like them as a pickup and play option. The Colts offensive line is good for giving up a few sacks and Andrew Luck is always good for one bad decision. They will probably give up some points, but they should do enough other stuff to have a solid week. (about 45% owned)
Recommendation: Worth a look as a pickup and play
