If you are new to a salary cap format, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. Your weekly lineup strategy is completely up to you. You can target a group of medium-priced players, or play some higher-priced studs mixed with lower-priced value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap.
You’ll need to save money on at least a couple of positions if you want to roll with any high-priced studs in your lineup. With that in mind, let’s take a look at several bargain bin picks that I like for Week 4.
Who isn’t expecting Roethlisberger to pick apart Tampa Bay this week? Playing at home and in a soft matchup, this should be a strong game and solid value for Roethlisberger. The Bucs fall to 0-4 this week. Mark it down!
This could be the shootout of the week. With a suspect defense, I think Romo will be passing a ton this week. While Dallas would like to slow this game down with their run game, I suspect Dallas will have to air it out to keep up with Drew Brees and company.
With Ryan Mathews and now Danny Woodhead out, Donald Brown steps into a heavy workload role. Not only is the matchup good for Brown, he’s also active in the passing game and has goal line duties. If the Jags can’t keep up in this one, the Chargers are likely to run a ton in the 2nd half to close out this game.
With 18 carries last week, Khiry Robinson should be in line for a solid workload again. There is some downfall with Pierre Thomas in the mix, but the price is is low enough on Robinson you can’t complain. Robinson has upside of finding the end zone of course, but you could also gain quite a bit at another position by staying cheap with Robinson.
Wallace has been pretty solid each week. He’s the 9th WR overall for targets, and he should be forced plenty of targets again this week. With the high amount of targets and big play potential, Wallace offers up both value and upside.
If Eric Decker is out this week, Kerley could lead his team in targets again. He may not be a big red zone target as a smaller slot receiver, but he did find the end zone last week. If you’re loading up your lineup at other positions and need a cheap WR gamble, Kerley could be your man.
As the top priced TE, Jimmy Graham needs a big day to be a strong value. I think Graham is well worth it this week. Dallas is currently the 2nd worst team in the league to opposing TEs. This could be a monster day for Graham.
Kelce is getting more involved each week. As the Chiefs wide receivers face off against a Darrelle Revis secondary, It wouldn’t be a surprise if Kelce led his team in targets this week. I like the upside for the pass catching Kelce.
Donnell’s size makes him an ideal red zone target. At a price under $5,000, Donnell lines up as a bargain price play with solid upside. You’ll have to play a Thursday game if you want Donnell or Niles Paul this week.
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers are at home this week and facing the rookie QB Blake Bortles. I can’t say Bortles is an upgrade (yet) over Chad Henne. The Jags offensive line is still poor and the Chargers should be applying a ton of pressure on Bortles this week.
After the Thursday Night Football meltdown, one might think that Tampa Bay will find a spark after that embarrassment. It’s possible, but I see a Tampa Bay team that is lacking with their offensive line, at QB, and is just plain demoralized at 0-3. The low price makes for a nice value play for the Steelers at home this week.
Punting on 3rd Down
Care to Take the Punting on 3rd Down Challenge?
This week’s punting challenge will be with Teddy Bridgwater ($5,900). The challenge is to play a $1.00 game with Teddy Bridgewater at QB. I’ll be posting my punting lineup in the forum later this week. Highest score wins bragging rights as the Week 4 Champion!
Alright FST Community, I’d love to hear who YOU love (or hate) this week. Post your FanDuel stud, dud or value plays in our Fantasy Football Forum.
