If you are new to a salary cap format, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. Your weekly lineup strategy is completely up to you. You can target a group of medium-priced players, or play some higher-priced studs mixed with lower-priced value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap.

You’ll need to save money on at least a couple of positions if you want to roll with any high-priced studs in your lineup. With that in mind, let’s take a look at several bargain bin picks that I like for Week 16.

Matthew Stafford @ CHI ($8,200)

Stafford carries a medium price on FanDuel this week and lands a nice matchup against the Bears. The Bears defense is a mess and have given up 35+ points (Avg.) in their last 3 games. Detroit won their previous matchup against Chicago with Stafford putting up 390 yards and 2 TDs. I’m viewing Stafford as a safe play with upside.

Robert Griffin III vs PHI ($6,900)

For a tournament play or if you’re looking to stay cheap at QB, the upside is still there for Griffin. The Eagles secondary has not looked good recently and this could be a bit of a shootout game like their earlier matchup this season. For those that are playing our Punting Challenge, we’ll also be playing RGIII this week.

Running Backs

Joseph Randle vs IND ($4,900)

With DeMarco Murray fresh off hand surgery on Monday, he could sit out this week. There is talk that Murray could return and play this week, but I’m not buying it until I see it. Lance Dunbar ($4,500) could be in the mix sharing carries, but Joseph Randle should be the front runner for the main workload and goal line duties.

Carlos Hyde / Alfonso Smith vs SD ($5,000)

I’m chasing the backup RB in San Francisco this week. With Gore dealing with a rough looking concussion from last week, I suspect Gore isn’t cleared for play this week. Carlos Hyde is also banged up, but I definitely want him in my lineup if he practices and starts this week. If Gore and Hyde are both out, Alfonso Smith ($4,500) may get the start for a sneaky play.

Wide Receivers

DeSean Jackson vs PHI ($6,900)

With his big play ability and nice matchup against his former team, DeSean Jackson could have a solid rebound this week. I wish his price was a bit lower, but his WR1 upside is enough for me to gamble on him in a couple games this week. DeSean had 5 catches for 117 yards and 1 TD in his previous game this year against the Eagles.

Malcom Floyd @ SF ($5,400)

With Keenan Allen out, somebody has to catch a pass for the Chargers. For the bargain basement price, I’m willing to gamble on Malcom Floyd as a WR3 value play this week. Floyd has good deep ball ability and height for red zone targets. With Ryan Mathews banged up and a tougher run matchup this week, the Chargers should be forced to throw early and often this week.

Tight Ends

Travis Kelce @ PIT ($5,600)

It’s been a roller coaster for Travis Kelce this season, but he’s on a solid 2 game stretch. Considering the matchup this week against the Steelers, there could be a good amount of targets again for Kelce this week. Kelce offer up good value and upside for Week 16.

Dwyane Allen @ DAL ($5,400)

Dwayne Allen was solid play and red zone target earlier this season, before his ankle injury. Now that he’s back to healthy, his price is lower, making him a good value play. Going against a Dallas team that has been poor against TEs helps offset the fact that Coby Fleener will split some targets.

Defense/Special Teams

Buffalo Bills @ OAK ($5,100)

The Bills are tough defense and especially against the run. I like the idea that Buffalo’s defense will force Derek Carr QB to throw this week. The Bills are on the road in this one, but I’m still viewing them as a strong play this week for their price.

Miami Dolphins vs MIN ($4,800)

I’m bullish on the Dolphins this week. After being beat by the Patriots, they may be off the radar for some. Miami is playing at home and against a Vikings team that is limited in the run game. The Dolphins can be aggressive in this matchup, which could yield extra sacks and turnovers.

Punting on 3rd Down

Care to Take the Punting on 3rd Down Challenge?

The FanDuel Week 16 punting challenge will be with Robert Griffin III ($6,900). The challenge is to play a $1.00 game with Robert Griffin III at QB. I’ll be posting my punting lineup in the forum later this week. Highest score wins bragging rights!

Alright FST Community, I’d love to hear who YOU love (or hate) this week. Post your FanDuel value picks for Week 16 in our Fantasy Football Forum.

Good luck!
