If you are new to a salary cap format, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. Your weekly lineup strategy is completely up to you. You can target a group of medium-priced players, or play some higher-priced studs mixed with lower-priced value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap.

You’ll need to save money on at least a couple of positions if you want to roll with any high-priced studs in your lineup. With that in mind, here are some FanDuel value picks for Week 13 that I like (based on a $60k budget; sorted by position and price).

Quarterbacks

Colt McCoy @ IND ($6,000)

Robert Griffin III has been benched. That leaves Colt McCoy as the starter and a nice value play with his low price. The Colts are the front-runner to take a lead in this one, which could force plenty of catch-up numbers for Colt McCoy this week. With plenty of solid receiving options, I like McCoy for solid vale at a bargain basement price.

Ryan Fitzpatrick vs TEN ($5,000)

With Ryan Mallett now out for the season, Ryan Fitzpatrick is in line to return as the starter. While Fitzpatrick isn’t a top QB play, his price is low enough to offer a couple of nice upgrades into your lineup. At this price, Fitzpatrick only only needs to be average to have strong value.

Running Backs

Alfred Blue vs TEN ($6,800)

You’ll have to monitor whether or not Arian Foster returns this week before playing Alfred Blue. If Foster is out, I like Alfred Blue as a RB1 quality play. Going against a Titans team that is currently the worst against the run, it’s a great matchup.

Latavius Murray @ STL ($6,700)

Latavius Murray looked great last week, albeit on only 4 carries. Now dealing with a concussion, you’ll have to make sure Latavius Murray plays this week. My guess is Murray plays and gets a lion’s share of the workload.

Tre Mason vs OAK ($6,000)

A repeat on the list and I’m still a believer. I like the production for Mason, but he’s lacking in the TD department. I could see the Rams getting a lead in this matchup and serving up a heavy dose of Tre Mason to close out the game.

Wide Receivers

Mike Wallace @ NYJ ($7,100)

I like the matchup this week for the Dolphins passing game. The Jets could slow down the run and have Tannehill passing plenty this week. I like Mike Wallace as the main beneficiary and for a solid game with plenty of upside.

Robert Woods vs CLE ($5,600)

If you’re digging in the bargain basement for a deal, Robert Woods may fit your bill. I’m expecting Joe Haden to spend a majority of time slowing down Sammy Watkins this week, which could make for a good target boost for Robert Woods. I wouldn’t be surprised if Woods had double digit targets again this week.

Tight Ends

Delanie Walker @ HOU ($5,700)

Delanie Walker made a big return last week with 155 yards. I’m not expecting that kind of yardage again this week, but the upside is there for Walker to lead his team in targets. I could see the Titans behind in this matchup and extra late game targets for Walker.

Jordan Cameron @ BUF ($4,900)

You’ll want to keep an eye on the player news with Cameron before starting him this week. Cameron is coming off a concussion and the early outlook is he will play. Now with Josh Gordon in the lineup, Cameron could have some added value as he benefits from lesser coverage.

Defense/Special Teams

Houston Texans vs TEN ($5,100)

Playing at home and with a nice matchup, Houston could be a strong play. I like Houston to run a ton and rely on their defense this week. It doesn’t hurt that that they face off against Zach Mettenberger, who cannot be trusted.

Miami Dolphins @ NYJ ($4,900)

The price for Miami takes a drop this week after allowing 39 points to Denver last week. I love the drop in price as Miami is still a strong defense. They are on the road this week, but in a nice matchup against a Jets team that is struggling.

Punting on 3rd Down

Care to Take the Punting on 3rd Down Challenge?

The FanDuel Week 13 punting challenge will be with Ryan Fitzpatrick ($5,000). The challenge is to play a $1.00 game with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB.
