If you haven’t played in a salary cap format before, here are the basics. You get a fake budget to spend on your players/team. With your weekly lineup strategy, it’s completely up to you. You can target a group of medium priced players, or play some higher priced studs mixed with value plays. All you need to do is stay under the salary cap. I typically load up on a few stud players, medium valued upside picks, and then gamble on a couple bargain priced or risk/reward players. Here are some value picks I like for Week 11 (based on a $60k budget; sorted by position and price).
Jason Campbell @ CIN ($6,800) – Campbell may not be a big name, but he has averaged nearly 23 points across his 2 starts this season. Campbell is a bit more risk this week with a tougher matchup.
Case Keenum vs OAK ($6,600) – It’s a good passing matchup for Keenum this week, who is also playing at home. Keenum has managed 3 TDs in each of his two starts this season. Keenum may be a good value QB if your looking for a cheap risk/reward play.
Andre Brown vs GB ($6,500) – Brown is back. Andre Brown was expected to split carries last week, but that wasn’t the case. With 31 touches last week, you can expect another heavy workload for Brown this week.
Ray Rice @CHI ($6,400) – Ray Rice has faced some tough matchups lately and is dealing with a nagging hip, so he is some risk. Rice faces a Chicago team that has been poor against the run lately. Chicago is the 2nd worst team against the run in the past 5 games.
T.Y. Hilton @TEN ($6,300) *Thursday – Hilton has been playing solid in the absence of Reggie Wayne. I think Hilton remains a solid value WR this week with a good amount of upside.
Eric Decker @KC ($5,800) – After a slow game last week, Decker drops in price this week. I still like Decker for an upside play every week. He is some risk due to all the options for Peyton Manning. I like his matchup considering that Demaryius Thomas will likely see the stronger coverage from Brandon Flowers.
Julius Thomas @KC ($6,800) – Julius Thomas isn’t in the Gronk or Graham price range, yet has a similar upside each week. I could see playing a combo of Julius Graham and Decker this week.
Antonio Gates @MIA ($5,400) – Miami should play strong against the outside receivers. Gates could be a good value play, considering his low price.
Arizona Cardinals @JAC ($5,700) – Arizona is one of the higher priced defenses this week, but I think they’re the strongest value play overall. They’re a strong defense and face the Jags this week for a nice matchup.
Indianapolis Colts @TEN ($5,000) *Thursday – With Jake Locker out, the Colts get an upgrade in their matchup against Ryan Fitzpatrick this week. For a bargain basement priced defense, the Colts offer up solid upside.
*Thursday Games: If you play in a Thursday game, your entire lineup locks on Thursday. The risk is yours!
