If you’re still reading this column, congratulations are in order. You’ve either kept yourself in the hunt for a Roto championship, or made the playoffs in your H2H league. In some cases, this past week was the first round of your playoffs. This late in the season, we play for the here and now – there are no more long-term stashes, only players with immediate upside. We’ll focus on a few of these today. The idea in mind here is that these guys can help you win next week.

Point Guards

Beno Udrih ORL | PG

The Magic have shut down Aaron Afflalo for the season. Since he was playing 30+ minutes per game, this gap will need to be filled. Udrih will be one of the recipients of these minutes. His per-minute averages are excellent, and he’s locked and loaded next week with 4 games, including dates with Washington and Charlotte. (less than 10% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Devin Harris ATL | PG

If you need assists and 3’s this week, consider Harris. He’s been averaging 10+ points, 5+ assists, and 1+ three-pointers made over the last scoring period. He and Jeff Teague are set to start together this coming week, and Harris is primed to help with 4 games on tap, including good matchups at Toronto and Orlando. (about 25% owned)
Recommendation: Add in deeper leagues, watch in standard leagues

Shooting Guards

Corey Brewer DEN | SG

Over the past two weeks, without starting a single game, Brewer averaged 16 points, 1.4 3’s, 2 boards, an assist, and 2.7 steals. He has been the single biggest reason why the Nuggets are on a massive winning spree, and his playing time will continue to be 25+ minutes per game. Better yet, he has a great matchup Monday against New Orleans, so even if you just stream him in for a single game, consider Brewer in your playoff week planning. (about 25% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Chase Budinger MIN | SG

Budinger has missed the whole season recovering from a knee injury. Earlier this year he was a fantasy force from beyond the arc for Minnesota. In two games thus far, he’s averaged 10 points, 3 boards, a steal, and a 3 for good measure. Minnesota has a 4 game week coming up, with tough matchups against the Lakers, Thunder, and Grizzlies. With Minnesota having nothing to play for, there should be quite a bit of mop-up playing time to be had for Budinger. (about 20% owned)
Recommendation: Add in deeper leagues, watch in standard leagues

Small Forwards

Matt Barnes LAC | SF

I can’t say enough about how much I love what Matt Barnes brings both to the floor in real life and to my fantasy teams. He’s posted a top 50 line over the past two weeks that includes 1.6 blocks and 1.8 3’s on 46% shooting. His versatile game also brings you 10 points and 5 boards per game. If that’s not enough, he’s also lined up for 4 games this coming week with great matchups against Dallas, New Orleans, and Houston. Owners that just lost Afflalo and missed out on Harkless would do well to consider Barnes. (about 25% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Maurice Harkless ORL | SF

Sound that Harkless alarm once more, and make it loud. Harkless is the most obvious beneficiary of the minutes Aaron Afflalo will be vacating. He’s been killing it anyway, and now is locked into a starting and prominent role for the remainder of the season. He should be in all lineups, in all leagues. If he’s somehow un-owned in your league, stop what you’re doing and go make add Maurice. (about 25% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Power Forwards

Ed Davis MEM | PF

In case you didn’t note this fact earlier, I’ll bring it to your attention: Marc Gasol is sidelined indefinitely with an abdominal tear. The Grizz have to be hoping it’s a one – two week kind of injury, but this has far reaching fantasy impact. If you own Gasol, you’re hosed (that would be me). If not, you have an opportunity, in the form of one recently forgotten Ed Davis. In only 18 minutes on Saturday night, he scored 11 points, grabbed 8 boards, and blocked 5 shots. If any of this sounds useful to you, make big Ed a priority. (about 15% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Kenyon Martin NYK | PF

Maybe he’s not quite as broken down as we thought. Martin will go back to a reserve role when Tyson Chandler returns, but Chandler is recovering from a bulging disc in his back, and that’s no sure thing as far as a timetable. Kenyon has proven to be a fountain of youth for a Knicks team struggling for depth and wins, and has more than established himself as a strong deep league add for the remainder of the season. ( less than 10% owned)
Recommendation: Add in deeper leagues, watch in standard leagues

Brandan Wright DAL | PF

With uninspiring options in Brendan Haywood and Chris Kaman, the Mavericks have turned to Wright to head up their frontcourt, and fantasy owners have reaped the dividends. He may look a bit like a giraffe, but Brandan has averaged 12 points, 7 boards and 1+ blocks on 60% shooting over the past two weeks. If you just lost Gasol and missed out on Ed Davis, perhaps Brandan can help make things Wright. (about 15% owned)
<Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Centers

Tyler Hansbrough IND | C

With David West out, all Psycho T did was throw up three straight double-doubles before cooling a bit versus Chicago on Saturday night. He didn’t play over 30 minutes in any of those games, and with the Pacers playing only for playoff seeding at this point, they have ruled West out for Sunday and Monday’s games. Indiana has a 4 game week coming up, and if West remains out, look for a string of monster double-doubles from Hansbrough. (less than 15% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues

Taj Gibson CHI | C

Sometimes, everything just works out. In this case, Gibson finally returned from a sprained MCL just in time for Joakim Noah to miss a few games with a recurrence of the plantar fasciitis he’s been dealing with all year. While Noah owners cry themselves to sleep, grab Gibson. He’s been a stud every time he’s gotten the minutes, and he should be in line for quite a few of them next week. On Saturday he went for 11 points, 5 boards, and 2 blocks, and most importantly, played 30+ minutes. ( about 15% owned)
Recommendation: Add in all leagues
